| | | Initial situation
and objective During a seminar held at Andechs Monastery, which lasted several
days, three automotive suppliers and an OEM developed joint concepts
for an innovative “futuristic door module”. Novel elements
were the integrated functionalities and the process for producing
and assembling the sandwich-type door construction. At the same time
the project organisation and the individual scope of responsibility
for each of the companies involved had to be defined.
 | | Procedure

                | - | Creativity
session to define possible functions of a „futuristic
door module” from the customer’s point of view |
                | - | Creation of
the functional structure of the door module and identification
                of the necessary components |
                | - | Development
of the modular structure of the door |
                | - | Optimisation
                of the assembly process |
                | - | Definition
of tasks in development and production, and assignment to the
companies involved | | | Results The cooperation involving experts from several companies at an early
development stage meant that widely differing perceptions were
available to shape the design process of the innovative door module.
This in turn enabled innovative solutions to be found, both with
regard to the functionalities and the material structure of the
door, and the assembly process. At the same time, the responsibilities
and the competences of the individual companies involved were clearly
            determined from the outset.
