Initial situation
and objective
Shortly before starting up the development of a new product line
the question arose as to whether the air-conditioning unit should
be integrated into the product structure of the cockpit. In this
case the previous organisational separation of the functional groups
Cockpit and Air-conditioning would also have to be reconsidered.
The aim of METUS was to develop and evaluate technical and organisational
alternatives in order to reach a well-founded decision. |
|
Procedure
- |
Acquisition
of more than 70 technical and organisational evaluation criteria
by means of personal interviews; |
- |
Facilitating
of workshops involving marketing, purchasing, development,
planning, production, assembly, project controlling and service
functions; |
- |
Compilation
and detailed evaluation of five alternative technical solutions
for combining the air-conditioning unit with the cockpit module; |
- |
Compilation
and detailed evaluation of four alternative forms of project
organisation and supplier structure |
- |
Selection
and optimisation of the best overall solution for the cockpit
module |
|
|
Results
The integration of the air-conditioning unit into the cockpit module
was clearly identified as the best technical solution. Thus, a
recommendation was made that the functional groups Air-conditioning
and Cockpit be consolidated. In addition, the supplier structure
for the cockpit module was significantly simplified in comparison
to that of the preceding model. The joint design and evaluation
process resulted in the selected solution being broadly accepted. |
